Solar Winds

Programme note

A characteristic of  Roosenschoon's works is the fact that most of them have descriptive titles.  In this respect Solar Winds (1995) is no exception.

Rather than portraying a phenomenon of nature, the title implies an African sunshine that emanates from our country's young musicians.

Angular rhythms, frolicsome passages, and even - complete with improvisation - a bit of Rock, makes of this work a boisterous statement.

The work was commissioned by the Concert Wind Band of the Bellville High School who gave its first performance in 1995.  The composer reworked it at the request of the Hugo Lambrechts Concert Wind Band for their overseas tour of 2000.
